Guild Leader Weekly #2: Member Activity

If your members are not active or loyal, you will notice that many of them especially new recruits decide to leave in a day or two. This problem can be easily solved through the following steps.

1. Planned Events: Planned events increase activity by planning events on a certain day. This will make sure that a majority of the members are online at that event. This will also "bond" your guild.

PvP Events: Planning PvP events will cause your guild to make certain members master a profession or build. The success rate of the PvP will have effects on your guild member loyalty. Winning games will increase loyalty and moral. Losing games will do the exact opposite.* Farming Events: Farming events will also make members master professions. Select only a couple farming locations such as Urgoz or FoW. Having a limited amount of farming will make your farms successful and promote members with certain professions.

PvE Missions: Doing PvP Missions in a certain campaign in Hard Mode will boost the morale of your members. They will be much more loyal due to the fact that you are contributing to their titles.

In-Guild Tournament: Planning an in-guild tournament with prizes for the top competitors will boost your guild activity. Make the in-guild tournament monthly so members will stay longer to have a chance in the tournament. Before making your first tournament set some ground rules that make certain skills/strategies illegal. Also choose if you want it to be 1v1, 2v2 or in bigger sizes.

2.Spontaneous Events: These can happen at any time between the major events. These will also boost loyalty and activity of members. Here are some great examples:

Dungeon Runs: If you can run a dungeon such as CoF, you may organize a dungeon run with your guildmates.

PvP: Team Arenas or any other team PvP can be organized in a small amount of time.

3.Rewards and Prizes: Rewards and prizes can be given to members that show the most effort, this will promote member activity and cause them to be much more loyal. Do NOT overuse this method.

Lottery: With a bigger guild(around 30-40 members) you may organize a lottery. This will be explained in later Guild Leader Weekly posts.

If you can start and maintain activity throughout your guild, new members will more likely stay and the guild will grow at a faster rate. You can always make events alliance-wide making the alliance active too and this in turn will help you build and progress your guild. You can also increase activity by getting a Ventrilo or Teamspeak 2 server.

There are tons of different voice over IP programs, some of the most popular ones include Ventrilo and Teamspeak 2. Here is some information that may help you decide which one you'd like to use:

VoIP Service	Pros	Cons
Ventrilo	The most popular VoIP in Guild Wars and other games. You can run a free 8-slot server on your own computer. Lots of channel options. Password protected and Text to Speech.Great sound quality.	Uses a lot bandwidth and there a less admin options.
Teamspeak 2	The second most popular VoIP in Guild Wars and most players own TS2. You can run a limited server on your own computer. Channel options and password protected. Great sound quality.	Lower sound quality than ventrilo and may give static if majority of slots are filled.
X-Fire	This is a free to use no limit VoIP. There are a lot of Guild Wars players that have X-Fire installed.	There are no channel options and little admin options. You can not purchase upgrades for you channel. You cannot use press-to-speak in X-Fire.

Prices:

VoIP	Avg. Price per Slot (USD)
Teamspeak 2	0.30¢
Ventrilo	0.53¢

As you can see the average Teamspeak 2 slot price is much lower than Ventrilo. Teamspeak 2 10-Slot servers prices can go as low as $2.60 per month and Ventrilo 10-Slot servers prices can go as low as $2.69 per month. You just have to register for X-Fire VoIP, but there are a lot of limitations that make it not as useful as Teamspeak 2 or Ventrilo. They can also be extremely expensive per month. You should do some browsing and find the most suitable price that will help you get that VoIP server for your guild.

Guild Leader Weekly #1: Starting

Managing a guild takes a lot of work so this weekly article will help you build an active and loyal guild. This article will provide you information on how to maintain your guild's activity, manage events, and have a great alliance.

Building the Base
For this step you will need:

Go to your local Guild Registrar who is located in big cities such as Kaineng Center, Kamadan, or Lion's Arch. There you will decide upon your name (3-31 letters) and your tag (2-4 letters). Remember your name and tag are permanent and can only be changed if you start a new guild so you use spell check before you finalize your name.

Once complete, you should confront the Guild Emblemer where you will decide upon your cape. The cape should be fashionable, make sure your cape does not look horrible else people may leave because they do not like the cape however you can always change your cape for another 2K.

Now you will have to create the Guild Hall which is notably expensive. Now you will have to go to a Canthan Ambassador and ask him to show you Guild Halls. There are 16 different guild halls. You should choose the one the you like best or the one that will be suitable for your Guild Style. Once your are at your chosen hall, buy your celestial sigil from the Sigil Trader. Once done return to the Ambassador and buy the guild hall. In the guild hall, you may buy various services. You should invest only in the Xunlai Chest because your guild may die out or you may not want to continue being a guild leader.

Now you should choose your alliance depending on whether you are Kurzick or Luxon. You can do this at the House Zu Heltzer (Kurzick) or Cavalon (Luxon).

Now you must choose whether you want your guild to be PvP, PvE, GvG, HoH, Farming, ETC.

Members
Since you are done with the base of your guild, you will now need:

around 2K
some loyal friends that would like to be officers

Now you should ask your best in-game friends if they would like to help you start the guild and be officers. If you do not have loyal in-game friends or they do not want to, then you promote your favorite and trustworthy members. Do NOT promote anybody right on the spot. Even if you have no other officers do NOT promote them.

Now will begin one of the most tedious parts of starting your guild: recruiting. Recruiting is simple. You and your fellow officer(s) will go to popular places such as Temple of Balthazar, Kaineng City, or Lion's Arch and start recruiting by announcing the following: "Recruiting (active/loyal) for Guild Name [tag] Guild Hall, Cape, (website, ventrilo, teamspeak, kurzick, luxon, pvp, pve, etc.)"

Here are some tips to help you gain members:

Be Polite and Nice
Welcome them to the guild once they accept
Answer any questions
Do NOT recruit in Ascalon, Kamadan, or Shing Jea Monastery
Go to districts 1, 2, or 3
Use party search to your advantage
Spread out your officers when recruiting

On the first day you should get as many officers as possible because most members leave a new guild the next day. You should instantly plan an event for your guild.
